Project Output and Environmental Impact:
- Total maximum output: 4.5 MW.Annual generating power: 30,243 MWh.
- Reduction in global GHGs: up to 22,500 tons CO2e annually (approximately 472,500 tons CO2e over 21 years).
Hydropower Context in Sabah:
- Only 6 small run-of-river hydropower plants operated by SESB (Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd.).
- No private sector small-scale hydropower plants due to investment barriers.
Market and Infrastructure:
- Small-scale hydro power is not common in Sabah; thermal power is prevalent.
- This project will be the first private sector initiative in small hydro power generation in Sabah.SESB is the sole power utility with a transmission network across Sabah.
Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed with SESB on 7th July 2005.Project will connect to SESB’s west coast transmission grids.
Contribution to Sustainable Development:
- Supports the development of sustainable energy, aligning with governmental policies.
- Promotes local employment and economic growth through the construction and maintenance of the hydropower plant.
- Advances technical transfer and small hydro power development in Sabah by the private sector.
